After streak of fumbles, Peterson takes extra care

Adrian Peterson has been holding that pigskin high and tight in practice this week.

Peterson has five fumbles in the last three games, causing some concern for the Vikings as they chase a spot in the playoffs. The NFL’s leading rusher on Friday dismissed any need to change his aggressive mentality toward carrying the ball, but Peterson acknowledged he is taking some extra care when it comes to tucking it away.

Peterson was particularly discouraged after Minnesota’s 24-17 loss to Atlanta last week, but he said he’s eager to make amends in Sunday’s regular season finale against the New York Giants. If the Vikings win, they’re in the playoffs.

A loss by Chicago at Houston would also give them the division title.
