A Mankato group’s recent walk in the park turned out to be anything but just that.
Louie King often likes to walk through Rasmussen Park. Last weekend he was accompanied by two children of family friends when they happened on to a woman who was reported missing the night before.
King had to walk about 100 feet into a slough to pull the disoriented 82-year-old out to safety. She had some cuts and bleeding on her arms, and King carried her out. King left the woman with his 7-year-old buddy Alex while he went to call authorities.
The woman was returned safely to an assisted living facility nearby. Little Alex was the first to see the woman and King said he "felt like a hero. And I think he was."
