Authorities say a truck’s hydraulic lift hit the underside of a bridge on Interstate 94 and knocked out huge chunks of the bridge, injuring four people and backing up traffic for miles.
The freeway was back open in both directions by early evening Friday.
Clay County Sheriff Bill Bergquist said the crash happened shortly after noon. Authorities said parts of the bridge fell on a car, smashing the hood and windshield.
The driver of the truck as well as the driver of the car and two passengers were all treated for minor injuries.
Bergquist said the 8th Street bridge’s concrete pillars suffered significant damage from the lift on the Ken’s Sanitation truck.
