Vegas MD, wife get prison in Botox knock-off case

A Las Vegas physician was sentenced to nearly four years in prison and his wife to 2 1/2 years for treating patients with a Botox knockoff at their cosmetic clinic.

U.S. Attorney Gregory Brower said Monday that 54-year-old Dr. Stephen Lee Seldon and 41-year-old Deborah Martinez Seldon also were fined $144,000. They were convicted in November for mail fraud and adulterating a drug while held for sale.

Defense lawyers filed a notice of appeal after the couple’s sentencing Friday. Deborah Seldon managed her husband’s medical practice.

Prosecutors say patients getting wrinkle treatments at A New You clinic were injected unknowingly with TRItox. The government says the cheaper Botox substitute is a research quality drug not for human use.
