Hypocrisy. According to Merriam-Webster, hypocrisy is "a feigning to be what one is not or to believe what one does not." In simple terms, it is holding the world at large to a standard, yet exempting yourself from the requirement to meet the standard. For the moral relativist or the secularist, hypocrisy is the only real "sin." The vast majority of moral relativists and secularists are on the political left, and undoubtedly became teary-eyed watching Al Gore receive an Oscar for his environmental vigilance.

But we learned something interesting about the former vice president the day after he received his Oscar. His mansion in Nashville, Tennessee appears to lack some insulation. Seems he and Tipper consume as much energy in a month as most of us consume in 20 months. Do I care how much energy the Gores consume? No. But those who profess to be his followers supposedly do. Talking the way Gore talks and then living the way he lives is the global warming equivalent of a prominent Evangelical leader having five mistresses and a homosexual lover on the side. Such a leader would be stripped of his position, labeled a hypocrite, and rendered irrelevant in public life.

If the global warming hysterics have any sense of shame, they will attempt to get Gore's Oscar taken from him, and never listen to another word he says. If a guy really believes that global warming is the biggest moral challenge facing our generation, and that the human race is on the fast track to destruction without immediate steps to limit use of fossil fuels, there is simply no way to justify a level of energy consumption that dwarfs that of the average American. But Gore will not be called to account. Because you see, just as I have always maintained, this is not a movement to save a planet, it is a movement to save an ideology. So go ahead Mr. Gore, consume away. Boy it must be nice to be the moral leader of a group with no moral standards.
