I'm not a ice fisher, I don't ski (cross-country or downhill) and I don't own a snowmobile, so winters can be long for me. I need a winter project. Looking around the garage I had an idea, build my own powered recliner!
Here's what I have: an electric power scooter, a nice tool set and a lot of free time.
Here's what I lack: a recliner and welding skills.
I'm thinking that with some minor alterations the scooter could make an outstanding base for the project. I would need to only weld a cross bar to hold a right and a left wheel. I could leave the front steering wheel and the rear drive wheel intact, keeping the project as simple as possible.
I was looking on Craigslist for a suitable recliner. I want one that's classic in it's styling. None of this modern micro-fiber or leather. I want tweed. Old, stinky tweed. I'm thinking I could get one for less than $25. This is something I think I can acquire fairly easily.
The biggest issue is this: welding. I got a passing grade in shop class when we had welding. All that I had to do for the grade was weld 2 pieces of metal together. Unlike in the classrom this project will require skills. I may need a volunteer for assistance. Any takers?
Murphy bet me this morning that I wouldn't be able to get this job done. He rightly sites my history of starting projects and not finishing them. So I think this now a challenge as well.
I'll keep you posted once construction begins. If you know how to weld please e-mail me at:
