Vikings vs Browns...Adrian Peterson continues to play like a man among boys. He toyed with the Browns for much of the second half even after getting an IV before halftime. By the way, I hope the medical staff does a better job of closing up the puncture next time he needs one.
Only negative thing about AD's performance against the Browns...I went against him in my fantasy league. My opponent had the first pick in the draft (Peterson) in his first ever Fantasy Football season. Adrian had a big day and so did my opponent's defense (Philadelphia) versus a pathetic Carolina offense. I need the Chargers' defense to score 7 touchdowns in order for me to pick up a Week 1 win. :(
Brett Favre throws for 110 yards and connects with Percy Harvin in the end zone for their first touchdowns as members of the purple. I think we're going to have a lot of fun watching Percy all over the field as long as he stays healthy and stays away from the weed.
Even with Brett's less than spectacular numbers...he had a MVP day compared to fellow NFC North quarterbacks Jay Cutler, Aaron Rodgers, and Matthew Stafford. Favre was efficient to say the least but you can still clearly tell his timing is still off and that his offense is still a work a progress. It will be nice for him to have another "tune up" next week at Detroit.
My "On the Record" picks from the weekend: missed on the Twins and the Colts (didn't cover)....hit the easy one with the Vikings and got the Gophs....most proud of my "upset special" as my alma mater (University of Houston) upset Oklahoma State.
Twins weekend: Left Friday's game at 9pm out of disgust after the Twins fell behind 10-1. Barely paid attention on Saturday and only glanced at the game Sunday during commercial breaks in the Vikings' game. What's been so sad about this week is the Tigers gave the Twins at least 5 chances over the last 7-9 days to make up ground on the Central leaders.
Was at a co-workers wedding on Saturday so I missed the debut of TCF Bank Stadium. As expected the reviews were great and the game itself was pretty entertaining if you don't count the first 2 and 1/2 quarters. Gopher defense again outperformed the offense. Linebacker Nate Triplett played out of his mind. He will have to do that again as the Cal Bears come to town next weekend. Syracuse and Air Force are not even close in competition with Cal. I hate to say this but if the offense doesn't get off to a faster start next Saturday...this could be a 21 point victory for the road team.
Speaking of weddings...I think there is a rule that I wasn't aware of when I got married in 1997. Apparently you have to play these 5 songs during the reception... (1) YMCA (2) We Are Family (3) Sweet Caroline (4) The Chicken Dance Song (5) Macarena
Thank you DirectTV for the free preview of NFL Sunday Ticket. I'm still not buying it but it was sure nice to have every game at your control for at least one Sunday.
I thought I would sit down over the weekend and watch some US Open Tennis. Caught some of the Agassi-Federer match. I thought this was cool until I realized there was a rain delay and the match I was watching was from earlier this decade. Then heard later that night that Serena went nuts against foot fault women. That's enough tennis for 5 years.
