As some of you may know by now, my last day at AM 1500 will be on Wednesday, December 30th. I've accepted a job as a talk show host and sports anchor for both KTRH and KBME radio in my hometown of Houston, TX. I"ll be doing some sports updates, doing a midday talk show, and in the summer hosting Houston Astros pregame and post-game shows.
To say that my family has enjoyed our time in Minnesota would be an understatement. The MOA is a second home for my wife. My boys have become big fans of all the sports teams in town (especially the Twins). And last but not least, my 2 year old daughter Carly was born at Fairview Southdale Hospital. Selfishly, that's my greatest Minnesota moment.
Houston is home for us and we've missed being close to our family. I think you can understand this. This move isn't easy as I've vested 3 years of my professional life in this community, getting to know and work with the athletes, coaches, and front office people with all the teams. I think I've been fair with my praise and criticism for all of them. In addition, it's been hard to come to grips with the fact that I won't be at Target Field for the stadium opener. And there's also that potential trip to watch the Vikings in the Super Bowl down in Miami.
At AM 1500, I've enjoyed the pleasure of working with a fantastic on-air staff, a supportive sales and marketing team, and the best managers/ownership group you could ask for in an employer.
Special thanks also to my producer Nick Ridley who handles all the technical aspects of the show. I tease him often but it's all in good fun. I credit him for actually getting me to listen to music post 2000.
And for those of you that spent part or all of your 5:30-8 weeknights with me, I owe you a great amount of gratitude. I wouldn't be able to last in this incredibly difficult business if I didn't have your ears.
If you haven't called in lately, remember I will be on til the 30th.
Again a heartfelt thank you for a wonderful 3 years.
Matt
