Blogging from the Big Apple Day 2! Thursday, October 8th, 2009

Looking forward to talking with many of you tonight from 5:30-8:00. Jim Souhan will join me for the first half hour of the show. Russo Radio will be at 7 tonight. He'll return to his normal 6pm slot when the Twins are done with the postseason. Wouldn't it be nice if that was a few weeks away?

I'm spending much of this Thursday in my hotel room as I'm batting laryngitis. I also seem to get it around this time of year. When the weather changes, my throat doesn't like it. I've sucked back 2 large cups of tea and just finished up a grande coffee from Starbucks. To say I'm a little amped would be an understatement.

I love coming to New York as a visitor but you couldn't pay me enough to live here. Manhattan is simply overwhelming. 24 Hour traffic with cars. taxis, and lots of people walking. Cabbies are reckless to say the least. Walkers who try to cross the street without the "walk" sign lit up are literally taking their lives into their own hands. But 90 percent of the people don't seem to care.

There are so many food choices but man is it expensive!! Unless you plan on eating non stop McDonalds, expect to pay 15-20 for lunch and 30-50 for dinner. And that's me being conservative because I'm not spending my own money. Gotta keep expense accounts reasonable!

As for the New York media...the one feeling I always get when I cover a game here or the New York media comes to town is they way overestimate their value.  Many of them think they are the story.  I always hear "I did this or I ripped this guy that" when I am in an elevator or sharing a dining room table with them.  It is nausating!

As for the Twins...

I am staying at their hotel and per usual, they are staying in and around the hotel. Guys have to be worn out with so many games in such a short period of time. Sightseeing is for the offseason, trying to figure out a way to get hits off of AJ Burnett is the main agenda.

Yankee Stadium is not as intimidating as originally thought. The lineup however is. I know why Derek Jeter was getting so much MVP talk. On base 4 times. 2 runs scored with a home run.  The Twins never got him out and they paid for it dearly.

I am not worried about Nick Blackburn.  He's had a great September run and as long as his sinker has good movement, he's got a great chance to keep it close.  The Twins must be better than 1 for 9 with runners in scoring position or it won't matter who's on the mound.
